Don’t Gamble on Good Food: Las Vegas Breakfast

My husband and I go to Vegas (Las Vegas, Nevada) a couple of times a year, it is a short 4-hour direct flight from Chicago O’Hare to Harry Reid Internation in Vegas.  While neither one of us go to gamble; we enjoy going to see shows, fine dining and seeking out other adventures that Vegas area has to offer.  Vegas is not synonymous with boredom, and you don’t have to be a gambler to have fun.

We consider ourselves to be foodies, we are not impressed with fast food and buffet dining.  One of my guilty pleasures when I go to Vegas is Eggs Benedict.  Nothing satisfies my palate like a lusciously rich, creamy Hollandaise sauce over a perfectly poached egg atop a salty slice of Canadian bacon perched on a buttery lightly toasted English muffin.

On one of our earlier trips to Vegas I scoured the internet for recommendations.  While I did get a couple of good recommendations this turned out to be a bit of a crap shoot.  There was a lot of information, but not all the recommendations were worth the coin.

When it comes to Eggs Benedict there are two places along the Vegas strip that are worth going to and serve a great array of other breakfast and lunch items.  One of our favorites that we frequent often is Bouchon by Thomas Keller at the Venetian Hotel along the strip.  The Venetian Hotel has free and ample self-parking if you are driving.  You must take the Venezia tower elevator to level L (note there are several elevator banks, so you need to be in the right one).  This French Bistro is everything one would expect when it comes to great French dining and elegant service.  They have ample indoor and patio seating, but only does brunch on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  Don’t forget to get a pastry too!  Another favorite for Eggs Benedict is Sadelle’s Café at the Bellagio Casino along the strip.  Walking in the main entrance of the Bellagio you go through the Conservatory that is adorned with gorgeous seasonal plants and flowers and topiaries for the season, Sadelle’s Café is on the right in the back.  The Eggs Benedict and brunch/breakfast menu always has delicious array of food to choose from.

Another place that is worth visiting and easier on the pocketbook is Eggslut inside the Cosmopolitan Hotel on the Vegas strip.  It is up the escalator on the second level and off to the left.  There is always a line and for a reason.  Affordable and great tasting breakfast options.  I don’t like to wait in lines, but I will always wait in this line as the reward of tasty breakfast at the end.  Usually, the line wraps around and down the hall, but seems to move along at a steady pace.  My favorite is the Slut (hate the name but love the food).  This poached egg coddled in a bed of potato puree is next level rich and creamy melt in your mouth goodness.  They sprinkle it with gray salt and chives for that umami bomb.  My husband enjoys the applewood smoked bacon, egg and cheddar cheese sandwich served on a brioche bun with a gently spiced chipotle ketchup pair that with a truffle hash brown cooked in duck fat for a delicious meal.  Don’t forget to grab a chocolate chip cookie that is fresh baked to soft melt in your mouth delight and sprinkled with gray sea salt to add that next level of flavor enhancement.

Breakfast Busts

Recommended places that were a bust.

Sid’s Café at the Westgate resort was recommended by internet search as a place to eat breakfast and is known for their large skillet cinnamon roll.  This ended up being a large flavorless blob of dough with lack luster icing.  My husband even ordered scrambled eggs and bacon that were over cooked and greasy.  The restaurant has a damp and musty odor to it as well.  Should have known it was not going to be a good experience as there was only us in the restaurant when we arrived and maybe one or 2 other couples showed up when we were there.

Hash House A Go Go at the LINQ was also an internet recommendation.  I had the biscuits and sausage gravy; the biscuit was hard flavorless disc, and the gravy was pasty.  Not edible in any way.  My husband had the Basic 2 egg breakfast with eggs scrambled that were over cooked and under seasoned.  I now refer to this restaurant as the Hash House A No No.

Della’s Kitchen at Delano is another failure as far as breakfast recommendations.  This place advertises as farm to table, flavor is more like frozen to table.  Lacked the freshness I would expect from a farm to table restaurant.

These have been my Foodie recommendations as far as breakfast/brunch hits and misses.  I don’t like wasting money, but don’t mind paying for delicious food.  If you ever go to Vegas hopefully you will enjoy some great food as there are a lot of choices out there.
